Our Mission
To open the DSL market in the United States. It is currently a closed Market. The business Model is based very similar to what the old Telephone system was like in the United States before the Phone Giant was split in 1984. Up until that time people were forced to rent their Telephones and had to go to the Phone Company to get a phone. You do not go to the Phone Company to get a Telephone or a Dial Up modem so why would you go to the Phone Company to get a DSL Modem?
While it is not quite as bad as when people had no choice other than to rent whatever phone the Telephone Company was pushing at the time, the DSL situation is unique in that the Telco' s push the issue by stifling competition in many ways. One way they are doing it is the "offer" of a free DSL Modem provided the customer signs up for a year commitment and you have little choice in what Modem you will get. You are able to sign up for "Bring Your Own Modem" but they imply that it is a treacherous or not suggested thing to do because your Modem is "Unsupported" by their Technical Support staff. They try to justify this tactic by having a couple of Modems on a list that they say are known to work but still "Unsupported". Try to get any other Modems on the list that are known to work and they ignore you. This did not happen with Dial Up Modems and should not be any different with DSL Modems.
News Flash Update June 10, 2003
We thought it would take Sales by DSLModemsDirect of a few thousand DSL Modems to get the attention of the Telco's and Retailers but as of this week you can now go to many Retailers and get the very same Modems as here at DSLModemsDirect. This is a great development, a truly great day in U.S. Telecom History in what was a very dark mark on open Free Market trade of product. We will still continue to offer the DSL Modems for sale here for those that are either too far from a Retail store or simply like the convenience of shopping on the Internet from home. Thank you everyone for your support.
